Software and apps

Software

  • Do not italicise the name of software.

  • If an individual has proprietary rights to the software, name them as the author; otherwise treat the reference as an unauthored work.

  • In parentheses immediately after the title identify the version number, if any, eg. (Version 2)

  • In square brackets immediately after the title and version number identify the format, eg. [Software]

  • If the software is available online, provide the URL rather than the publisher name and location.

Apps

CD-ROM

  • List the primary contributor(s) in the place of author(s).
  • Only the CD-ROM title should be in italics.
  • Specify the format in square brackets immediately after the title, eg. [CD-ROM].
  • The first letter of the first word of a title should be capitalised as should the first letter of the first word of any subtitle. Everything else should be in lower case unless it is a proper noun or an abbreviation that is always written in capitals.

Example

Primary contributors Surname, First Initial. Second Initial. (Year). Title of work [CD-ROM]. Place of Publication: Name of Publisher.
