Borrowing from the Library

Your Student card is your Library card and you will need to have it with you to borrow.

How long can I borrow for?

  • Students
    • have a guaranteed loan period of 7 days, but can keep an item for up to 28 days if nobody else reserves the book.
    • if someone else reserves the book after 7 days you will receive an email asking you to return it as soon as possible.
  • Staff
    • can borrow up to 5 items at a time for up to 4 weeks.
    • teacher reference copies should be acquired through the publishers' "Instructor Copy" services. These are provided at no cost to teaching staff, and publisher websites generally have a simple request process. Library staff can assist in locating the correct contact details if required. 
  • Online students
    • Books that are not available as ebooks can be sent via our Postal service
    • To borrow, complete the book loan request form
    • The borrowing period is 2 weeks and you can renew once. This is from the date the book is sent to you.
    • You are responsible for:
      • fees associated with returning a book through the post to the Library
      • returning the book to the library. The return address can be found on the campus information page for your library.
      • You are responsible for renewing books on time, even if for any reason you have not received a reminder.

Note: We do not post books outside of Australia.

Renewing: What if I need the book for longer?

You can renew your loans as many times as you like during the 28 day loan period so long as no one has reserved it.

  • Renew online, in person, by chat or by phone
  • For renewals after the 28 day loan period, please bring the books and visit our information desk.
  • Check your emails for information about your loans. You will receive an email a few days before the end of your loan period.
  • You can also check your current loans, due dates, requests and fines in My (Library) Account.

What if the book I want isn't available?

If all copies of a book you want to borrow are on loan to other students you can reserve a copy so you will be able to borrow it when a copy is returned:

  • You can reserve a book from anywhere by logging into the Library catalogue.
  • You will be notified by email when the book is ready for pickup.
  • The book will remain on the pickup shelf for 3 working days.

Overdue items

You will be charged 50c per day for overdue items.

  • Reminder emails are sent a couple of days before items are due, and
  • You will be notified by email are when you have overdue loans.

Sign in to your library account to check amount owing or speak to your library staff.

Paying fines

Fines can be paid by:

  • debit or credit card,
  • via the self-check kiosk eftpos machines.
  • over the phone - call 03 9415 3301

Damaged materials

If library material is damaged in any way, you are liable to replace the item or pay the full replacement cost to the library.
