Working with long documents

Writing and navigating a long document such as a thesis can be time-consuming and frustrating. Word has features that can make it easy to access different points in a long document. Learning how to set up these features allows you to:

  • Subdivide the document using styles to access strategic places and sections such as chapters.
  • Set up a table of content to display different sections
  • Enable the Navigation pane to go directly to a specific page instantly
  • Zoom out to view multiple concurrent pages
  • Turn on Split View to view different parts of the document at the same time.

Mendeley also has a plug-in for Microsoft Word that enables you to cite while you write.
