Library Orientation: Top Library Tips

Welcome to Torrens Library

New to Torrens, or need a refresher? Watch the video below then check out our top 6 tips for using the Library

Tip 1: Access your subject readings through the Reading List

Ever wonder how to see all of your subject's readings all in one place? The Reading List is your best bet.

Each subject will have a Reading List, which you can access through MyLearn. Go into your subject, and find the link in the left-hand side navigation bar, under Additional.

On mobile devices, you can find the Reading List link on your subject's home page menu.

If you run into any issues accessing your readings, please contact librarysupport@torrens.edu.au.

Tip 2: Use the Referencing Tool

What is referencing?

Assessments at uni require you to cite other people's ideas and information that you have used to support our own work. This is called referencing.

Using the Referencing Tool

Use our Referencing Tool for guidance on the different referencing rules you need to follow depending on what type of information you are using.

Tip 3: Get ready for your first assessment with our Getting Started guide

Don't know where to start for your first assessment? Don't worry, we have you covered.

Check out our Getting Started page for all the tips you need on how to use the library for your assessment.

Tip 4: Attend our workshops

We regularly run online workshops that will help you build and strengthen all sorts of library-related skills like finding articles, managing your references, and more. Check out our full workshop schedule.

Tip 5: Visit our libraries

Most of our books, articles, and more are available online (see Tip 6!), but we do have library spaces in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and the Blue Mountains that you can visit. There, you can find physical books and plenty of places to study. Find more info here.

Tip 6: Browse our e-resources and databases

We have heaps of different types of online resources, ranging from academic journals and eBooks, to courses and interactive tools. Search our catalogue or visit our E-Resources and Databases page to browse a complete list of what is available from the library.
