Ethical Use

Consider the ethical implications of using AI tools and the content they create. The Australian Government has developed its AI Ethics Principles, which provides a framework aimed at ensuring fairness and minimising negative impacts when using AI tools.

Data Accuracy

Generative AI tools can sometimes generate information that is inaccurate or untrue. For example, it can make up references that don't exist. These are often referred to as 'hallucinations'. It is important that you review anything generated by these tools in a critical manner.

Bias

Generative AI tools are trained on large amounts of data, which may include cultural, social, and other biases. These biases may carry on to the content that the tools generate. Keep this in mind when you are using AI tools and evaluating the content they create.

Evaluation Techniques

Like with any source of information, it is important for you to evaluate that it is fit for use.

Some common evaluation techniques include:

  • CRAP test - a general information evaluation technique
  • ROBOT test - an evaluation mnemonic specifically aimed at AI tools
