How much of a work can staff copy and communicate in digital form? (i.e. through eReserve Reading Lists)

literary work

  • 10% of the number of words OR one chapter (whichever is greater)
  • An article in an issue of a periodical (such as an electronic journal, e-zine or online newspaper) - more than one if they are on the same subject matter
  • A literary work of not more than 15 pages contained in a paginated anthology.
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published), or if the work is not commercially available within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.

dramatic work

  • 10% of the number of words
  • A dramatic work of no more than 15 pages contained in a paginated electronic anthology.
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published); or if the work is not commercially available within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.

musical work

  • 10% of the pages (e.g. score)
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published); or if the work is not commercially available within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.

artistic works (e.g. images, photos, diagrams, etc)

  • Any artistic work from the open web*

* This excludes artistic works sourced from databases or websites restricted by terms and conditions,

e.g. if you ‘click-to-agree’ to register for access to a website, you are bound by its terms and conditions.

How much of a work can staff reproduce from hardcopy? (i.e. scanned from print, photocopied handouts, etc.)

literary work

  • 10% of the number of pages OR 1 chapter (whichever is greater)
  • A literary work of no more than 15 pages published in an anthology
  • A whole article in an issue of a periodical (such as a journal, newspaper or magazine). You can reproduce more than one article if they relate to the same subject matter
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published) if the work is not commercially available in any format within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.

dramatic work

  • 10% of the number of pages
  • A dramatic work of no more than 15 pages published in an anthology
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published) if the work is not commercially available in any format within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.

musical work

  • 10% of the number of pages (e.g. score)
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published) if the work is not commercially available in any format within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.

artistic works (e.g. images, photos, diagrams, etc)

  • Any artistic work that accompanies (and explains or illustrates) text being copied under the scheme (e.g. an image contained in a chapter of a book)
  • As much as you need if the work has not been separately published (or has never been published) or if the work is not commercially available in any format within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.
