Sony A7 III Setup Guide

Introduction

The Sony A7 III is a mirrorless camera body designed for hybrid shooting. It has a 24.2MP full-frame sensor. Unless stated, the following assumes that the camera is in a manual shooting mode P, A, S, or M.

White Balance

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select Camera 1 tab, then Color/WB/Img.Processing menu Page 12/14.
  • Select White Balance -> AWB and confirm.

ISO

  • Press the ISO button right directional pad.
  • Select Auto.
  • Set min to 100 and max to 12800.

Image Quality

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select Camera 1 tab, then Quality/Image Size 1 menu Page 1/14.
  • Select File Format -> RAW & JPEG and confirm.
  • Select JPEG Quality -> Extra Fine and confirm.
  • Select RAW File Type -> Uncompressed and confirm.

Aperture

  • Set the mode dial to A to select aperture priority mode.
  • Use the front dial to select the desired aperture.

Metering

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Navigate to the Camera 1, then Exposure1 Page 9/14.
  • Select Metering Mode -> Multi.
  • Alternatively, select Spot: Standard to prioritize the center region.

Focus

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Navigate to the Camera 1, then AF1 Page 5/14.
  • Select Focus Area -> Wide.
  • Select Focus Mode -> Single Shot AF.

Format Card

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select Briefcase tab, then Setup 5 menu Page 5/7.
  • Select Format.
  • Select the slot.
  • Select Enter to confirm.

Exposure Comp

  • Turn the exposure compensation dial right-most top dial.
  • Adjust the value next to the indicator to the number of stops of compensation desired.
  • This value modifies the target exposure for the automated settings.
