Shure MV7 Application Guide
Introduction
The ShurePlus MOTIV™ Desktop App provides a user-friendly interface that gives you control over microphone gain, headphone levels, monitor mix blend, and muting capabilities. This guide will walk you through the setup and use of your Shure MV7.
Setup
- To set up your MV7, plug the included Micro-B USB cable into the MV7.
- Connect the other end of the Micro-B USB cable to the USB port on your laptop.
- If you want to listen to audio through your headphones, plug them into the monitor output.
- Download the app from Shure MOTIV Desktop App.
- Select your microphone from the drop-down menu, check your audio levels, and adjust your microphone settings.
Compressor
The Compressor option in the ShurePlus App takes the loudest and quietest signals and compresses them:
- Light Compression: A 3:1 ratio provides a subtle compression.
- Medium Compression: A 5:1 ratio means the sound becomes more intense.
- Heavy Compression: An 8:1 ratio amplifies the sound and adds bass, ideal for voice-overs or film trailers.
Limiter
The ShurePlus App has a switch called Limiter that can be turned on when needed to help prevent distortion, or left off when not needed:
- When turned on, it stops your recording from being clipped and prevents sound distortion that might occur at high volumes.
Auto Level Near & Far
The ShurePlus App provides two options for use: Auto Level Mode and Manual Mode:
- Auto Level Mode: Automatically chooses the best settings for your recording.
- Manual Mode: Allows you to control the microphone settings.
Auto Level Mode - Near
If you select Near mode (0-6 inches), it will create a warmer and richer broadcast tone ideal for voice-over recordings and/or content.
Auto Level Mode - Far
If you select Far mode, it is best used when you need to be further away from the microphone. Some people talk with their hands and need extra space to gesture. If you are filming and want the microphone out of the shot, this is a good option. The ideal distance for Far mode is between 6-18 inches away from your mouth.
Tone Options
The ShurePlus App provides three different audio tone settings:
- Dark: Low tones increase volume while maintaining a warm tone, emulating a movie voiceover.
- Natural: Emulates the human ear by providing natural sound.
- Bright: Elevates tones focused on clarity.
