Powering On

• Mount assist to camera
• Connect the 12v power
• Connect the HDMI
• Power on your camera
• Power on your assist

Playback

Swipe the touchscreen up or down to reveal the on-screen meters.

• Tap the playback transport control icons at the bottom of the LCD to play your clips.
• Tap the ‘play’ icon to start playback.
• Tap the ‘pause’ icon to momentarily freeze the playback on a frame of video.
• Tap again to resume playback.

Live Streaming

• Open Wirecast and select Sources/Output Settings from the dropdown menu.
• Select the Blackmagic device to confirm you're receiving an input.
• The Video Format should be auto detected.
• Hit OK. On the Main Wirecast page, add a camera (or cameras) along with any titles or images you wish to mix together in your live stream.

Record to USB

On the side of the Blackmagic body, you will find a USB-C port.

• Choose a USB-C device (SSD drive for best results).
• Connect the device via the port.
• Choose the correct destination on Blackmagic’s menu.

Dual Media Recording

You can record to flash memory cards that are easy to obtain. The files are small enough to allow long recordings on standard SD cards or the faster UHS-II cards. The larger Video Assist 7" models include 2 SD card slots so you can swap out any full cards even during recording, allowing infinite length recording.

Raw Recording

Video Assist supports Blackmagic RAW recording from Leica, Panasonic, Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon, and Sigma cameras. Popular camera formats such as H.264 are highly compressed resulting in noise and processing artifacts. Blackmagic RAW eliminates these problems so you get incredible detail and color throughout the production pipeline from camera to edit, color, and mastering. It also saves camera settings in metadata so you can set ISO, white balance, and exposure, then override them later while editing.

Post-Production Formats

Video Assist records using standard open file formats so you don’t have to waste time transcoding media. Files are compatible with all post-production software so you can work with the software of your choice, including DaVinci Resolve Studio. Recording works in industry-standard 10-bit ProRes or DNx files in all formats and from all HDMI or SDI cameras, as well as 12-bit Blackmagic RAW on the 12G-SDI HDR models when connected to supported cameras.
