Sony A7R III Video Setup Guide

Introduction

The Sony A7R III can shoot high-quality video in both 1080p for slow motion and in 4K. To begin, make sure the camera is in movie mode by setting the mode dial to the film strip icon.

Start Recording

White Balance

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select the Camera 1 tab.
  • Navigate to the Color/WB/Img.Processing menu.
  • Select White Balance and choose AWB or your desired option.
  • Press OK to confirm.

Format & Resolution

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Navigate to the Movie 1 menu.
  • Select File Format -> XAVC S HD.
  • Select Record Setting -> 25p 50M.
  • Press OK to confirm.

ISO

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select the Camera 1 tab.
  • Navigate to the Exposure 1 tab.
  • Press the ISO button.
  • Select Auto and press OK to confirm.

Exposure Mode

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Navigate to the Movie 1 menu.
  • Select Exposure Mode.
  • Select Manual Exposure and press OK to confirm.

Manual Control

  • Use the front dial to adjust the Aperture to your desired setting.
  • Use the back dial to set the Shutter Speed to 1/50.

Audio Levels

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Navigate to the Movie 2 menu.
  • Select Audio Recording -> On.
  • Select Audio Rec Level and adjust the level so that your sound peaks around -12db on the meter displayed.

Focus Mode & Area

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select the Camera 1 tab.
  • Navigate to the AF1 tab.
  • Select Focus Mode -> Single Shot AF or desired option.
  • Press OK to confirm.

Start Recording

  • Set the Mode Dial to Video.
  • Press the Record button to start recording.
  • Press the Record button again to stop recording.
