Sony A7R IV Video Setup Guide

Introduction

The Sony A7R IV can capture up to 4k video at 30fps or 1080p at 120fps. To enter movie mode, hold down the centre lock button and rotate the dial to the film strip icon.

White Balance

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select the Camera 1 tab, then navigate to the Color/WB/Img.Processing menu (Page 12/15).
  • Select White Balance -> AWB and confirm.

Shutter Speed

  • Use the top rear dial to set the shutter speed.
  • Lower shutter speeds will cause motion blur to be more pronounced.

ISO

  • Press the ISO button (right directional pad).
  • Select Auto.
  • Set the minimum to 100 and the maximum to 12800.

Format & Resolution

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Go to the Camera 2 tab, then the Movie 1 menu (Page 1/11).
  • Select File Format -> XAVC S HD.
  • Select Record Setting -> 25p 50M.

Aperture

  • Use the front dial to change the aperture value.
  • Wider apertures will create more background blur.

Audio Levels

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Select the Camera 2 tab, then the Movie 2 menu (Page 2/11).
  • Select Audio Recording -> On.
  • Select Audio Rec Level and set the level so that your sound peaks around -12db on the meter displayed.

Focus Mode & Area

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Navigate to the Camera 1 tab, then the AF1 menu (Page 5/15).
  • Select Focus Area -> Wide.
  • Select Focus Mode -> Continuous AF.

Exposure Mode

  • Press the MENU button.
  • Go to the Camera 2 tab, then the Movie 1 menu (Page 1/11).
  • Select Exposure Mode.
  • Select Manual Exposure.
